As we come upon the one year anniversary of TVSourceMagazine.com, I decided that the website was in need of a makeover.

It may seem a little much to change the layout of our site less than year after launching, but to be honest I was kind of bored with it. Though visitors didn’t see it until our Jan. 2012 launch, I had been looking at the same design for almost two years. I wanted something that would be appealing to the eyes, but also allow for content maximization.

See the changes below:

September 2012

September 2012 Layout

December 2012

December 2012 Layout

Upgraded to the newly revamped CMS system — focuses heavily on HTML5 and mobile compatibility.

Subtle changes to the logo — removal of half-circle and additional text; capitalized the “TV” in TVSource

Changed to a fluid width as opposed to a static one. That means the site re-sizes depending on the size of your screen.

CSS compression (helps the site load faster).

Changes to the UI allowing for easier navigation.

Better integration with social media sites (Twitter, Facebook, Google)

The next design we use will be fully responsive. Whether you’re viewing the site on your laptop, tablet, smartphone or gaming system, the website will adapt and change it’s structure to dynamically fit the device used.

As you know October 1 marks the beginning of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to promote screening and early detection of breast cancer.

Roughly 1 in 8 women in the United States will get breast cancer. Next to skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer in women. Mammograms can help find breast cancer early when there is the best chance for treatment. I especially know this because a mammogram saved my aunt’s life.

I knew cancer ran in my family, but it didn’t affect me because experienced it firsthand. My grandmother’s sister was diagnosed with and beat her breast cancer before I was born. It wasn’t until my mother’s sister was diagnosed with it in late 2010 that I learned just how much of an impact cancer can have on one’s life. My aunt is a teacher, a mother, a mentor and role model to many. She’s always been a strong personality and a pillar of strength for those who need it the most. The possibility of her no longer being around to raise her son, to help shape the young minds who will eventually be America’s future, to be the one so many turned to for guidance – was a scary thought. It was also a possibility she refused to accept.

After her diagnosis, she underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. A year and a half later she is now a cancer survivor, doing her part to spread awareness and encourage other women to get screened. She also participates in events to raise money, and is created “Team Peachy” with the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer”. You can learn more about that here: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=47312&pg=team&team_id=1233299

The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is a little less 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 36. Breast cancer death rates have been going down. This is probably the result of finding the cancer earlier and better treatment. Right now there are more than 2½ million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, SoSource Media brands, including TVSourceMagazine.com will go pink in support of the fight against breast cancer. In addition, we are pledging to donate 50% of revenue earned for October to the fight against breast cancer.

Atlantic City, NJ (Sep 28, 2012)

Atlantic City, September 28, 2012 – Earlier today, TVSource Magazine executive editor Omar White-Nobles received an email from former Days of our Lives head writer Marlene McPherson regarding comments made on his personal Twitter account. The comment in question was in reference storylines currently airing on Days of our Lives.

What was said referred to current head writers Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell “still ending stuff from old writers.” The term “old stuff”, refers specifically to the storyline of Nicole’s pregnancy, which began under Ms. McPherson’s and Mr. Thomas’ regime, and is currently continuing under the current regime. After said comment was made, Ms. McPherson contacted TVSource with the following email:

“I am not sure where you are getting your information but it is 100% false. Darrell and my stories finished with the Daysaster. What is on air now is all Gary Tomlin and Chris Whitesell. I have contacted our attorney and you will be hearing from him shortly. We expect an IMMEDIATE retraction or we will take legal action.”

We responded to Ms. McPherson’s email with the following: “Hi Marlene. I was simply referring to Nicole’s pregnancy storyline, which began under you and Darrell. I can clarify what I said and make it clear that these scripts are not yours.”

She replied: “Your tweets say nothing about Nicole. They are completely false. Not sure where you got this 10/15 date.” She then quoted the tweet and the message that was sent to her. “[From Omar] @soapwikijohn 10/15 on is when the show really kicks into high gear. It’s just treading right now. Still ending stuff from old writers. Source says TomSell is still ending stuff from you & Dar & that Days kicks into high gear on 10/15.” [Note: "TomSell" is a portmanteau of Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell's last names]

We responded again to Ms. McPherson. “Those were two separate things I was referring to. No one implied the work airing is your scripts. But I made it crystal clear it’s not.”

And we did: “CLARIFICATION: Earlier I mentioned DAYS was “still ending stuff from old writers”. OBVIOUSLY the scripts are TomSell’s not MarDars. More SPECIFICALLY I was referring to the Nicole pregnancy storyline which began under MarDar. Those that are smart clearly know this” [Note: "MarDar" is a portmanteau of Marlene McPherson and Darrell Thomas' first names.]

However 6:34PM/EST, we received the following letter from Ms. McPherson’s lawfirm:

Read Letter:

For the record, SoSource Media LLC., TVSource Magazine, nor its executive editor ever attributed “poor quality of the show, and the virtual plummeting of the ratings since the end of August” to stories written by Ms. McPherson and Mr. Thomas. The term “old stuff”, again refers in particular to the storyline of Nicole’s pregnancy, which began under Ms. McPherson’s and Mr. Thomas’ regime, and is currently continuing under the current regime.

SoSource Media is disheartened with the implication that its flagship property TVSource Magazine made statement that were false, defamatory and/or libelous.

It is unfortunate that TVSource Magazine staff apparently cannot comment on the current state of a fictional television series, on their personal twitter accounts, pertaining to a fictional storyline, again, Nicole’s pregnancy, that began under Ms. McPherson and Mr. Thomas, without incurring such harsh legal threats. And if the mere mention of a storyline, again, Nicole’s pregnancy, can be classified as defamation or libel, then we suppose that an apology and a retraction is due.

In response to their demand, SoSource Media, LLC and its affiliated brand TVSource Magazine hereby and unequivocally retracts what was written on its executive editor’s personal twitter account. And although it did not appear in any shape or form on the TVSource Magazine website, we are complying with Ms. McPherson’s request.

We have also been directed to “state the true facts”. Below are the true facts, which can be independently verified.

TVSource never attributed the “poor quality of the show, and the virtual plummeting of the ratings since the end of August” to Ms. McPherson. Such statement was never written.

Dating back to September 2009, it was stated by Omar White-Nobles at the creation of his Twitter account, “Alright so let’s talk about what I’ll be doing on this. Giving MY opinions of course, which doesn’t mean it’s the view of SOS. Remember that.” [Note: "SOS" referred to SoSource Media's then magazine Soap Opera Source, which was absorbed into TVSource Magazine in January 2012. -]

The announcement Ms. McPherson and Mr. Thomas’ departure from Days of our Lives was announced April 4, 2012 (http://tvsourcemagazine.com/soaps/news/2495-days-of-our-lives-fires-writing-team).

While Ms. McPherson and Mr. Thomas ceased writing for Days of our Lives in May, their stories, in particular scripts they worked on, continued to air until August 30 as stated in the legal letter.

While ratings under Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell have “plummeted” under them, ratings also “plummeted” at various times from December 2011 – July 2012 when Mr. Tomlin and Mr. Whitesell were not employed by Days of our Lives and/or their material was not airings.

While Days of our Lives’ ratings did rise in ratings leading up the Olympic hiatus during the weeks of July 16-20, July 23-27, and continued its rise during the weeks August 13-17, August 20-24, for the week of August 27-31, the series lost 200,000 in total viewers and 87,000 in women in-49 [specifically in reference to "ratings climbing to a crescendo" (http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2012/09/07/soap-opera-ratings-general-hospitals-ratings-rise-in-households-and-women-18-49/147640/)]

The series also hit multiple lows in total viewers and/or the coveted women 18-49 demographic dating back to December 2011 (http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/tag/days-of-our-lives-ratings/page/6/).

Rest assured, there will never, ever be another mention of Ms. McPherson or Mr. Thomas on TVSource Magazine, on Mr. White-Nobles’ personal Twitter account, official magazine twitter account, or any other yet to be created property owned by SoSource Media LLC.

In June TVSource reporter Amber Cunigan reviewed Nick-at-Nite’s new primetime soap opera “Hollywood Heights” (Article: ‘Hollywood Heights’ Review: Romance, Stardom, Secrets – and It’s Wholesome (So Far)!) ahead of its premiere on television. Little did we know it would be featured in a commercial for the show!

Here’s a screencap:

Today marks the 6th month anniversary of TVSourceMagazine.com! When we launched the site in January, there was a lot of uncertainty. Would the readers who supported Soap Opera Source support the new site? Would the readers feel as if we’ve abandoned soaps due to the cancellations? Luckily we didn’t encounter much of that. Of course there were those who didn’t understand why Soap Opera Source had to come to an end, but overall the response was positive and it’s shown in our numbers.

We’ve had more visitors to TVSource in the last 6 months than Soap Opera Source had all of 2011! Kudos to the staff at TVSource for creating engaging original content. It was difficult losing some of Soap Opera Source’s most talented writers during the transition, but the new team has exceeded expectations and continues to be stars.

The true test will happen this fall as it will be the magazine’s first first season. What to cover? What features to add? What to review? It’s all up for grabs.

Atlantic City, January 10, 2012 — SoSource Media, LLC announced today its four-year old property SoapOperaSource.com will shut down at the end of January.

The website, which launched in September 2008, will be replaced by its new entertainment property TVSourceMagazine.com. TVSource Magazine features expanded television coverage including breaking news, celebrity interviews and the hottest trends in television, film and pop culture. TVSource will absorb and re-brand all Soap Opera Source content.

“We are very excited to launch the TVSource property,” said Omar Nobles, SoSource Media’s founder and CEO. “This project has been in development for over a year and we look forward to this new step in our evolution as a company. Editorial content will be a major centerpiece of TVSource Magazine, showcasing the diverse opinions and strong personalities of our editorial team.”

“Much has changed since the launch of Soap Opera Source three years ago,” said William Dallman, Media Relations Director for SoSource Media. “We decided to re-think our approach to publishing and the content we provide. Doing so required going back to the drawing board and creating something fresh, new and exciting, while expanding the types of content that made Soap Opera Source popular among our readers. Part of that expansion will include coverage of popular and up-and-coming online web series like The Bay, Pretty The Series and Venice.”

Project “TVSource” : In May 2010, the Soap Opera Source team began looking at creating a new website that would feature a broad array of television content. At the time of Soap Opera Source’s launch, there were nine soap operas on the air. With the cancellations of Passions, Guiding Light and As the World Turns, questions about the future of the website were raised given the uncertainty of the soap genre. After months of work, the project is near completion and should be ready for the Fall 2011 season.

Untitled Political Project: Plans for a opinion based, user driven political commentary site have been put on indefinite hold. We will pick up development on this in the 1st quarter of 2013.

The future of Soap Opera Source is questionable. Currently Soap Opera Source will serve as a sister site to Project TVSource, with each site targeting a specific audience.
